The Portuguese designer Ana Salazar showed yesterday, in S. Paulo Fashion Week, the winter 2011 collection. Since the beginning black took part of the label’s DNA, and this time it was no exception. To illuminate the collection there was the series of blood red leather which gave impetus to the runway. The designer has also surrendered to the glitter of sequins in dresses, tops and leggings mixed with light pieces in gauze, muslin and heavy denim, following the trend of mixing volumes of opposite fabrics with the equation heavy + light = cool
The pins on dresses, skirts and leather pants, and the studs on the booties' heels were monitoring the punk-rock vibrations of the latest collections, but nothing really new that we can flap with. The silver mesh hoods remembering the medieval knights courted the trend "female warrior" which had been imposed a few seasons ago. One of the key pieces of the collection, the long pleated skirt had also been seen on the summer 2011 catwalks. So far a number of déjà vu left some disappointment if we could remember that we are talking about Ana Salazar, the Portuguese fashion pioneer who decided the way of Portuguese fashion and dictated trends for decades.
A final note to the naturalist printed inspired by the ancient forests of the central region of Portugal and the birds that inhabit it. A breath of fresh air in a predictable collection which were much less daring than the designer used to. Does Ana Salazar lose her irreverant breath and freshness? I don’t think so. Perhaps it happened because of the need of globalization, getting a larger market and new clients; it is known that the big market is not always receptive to large experimentation.

A criadora portuguesa apresentou ontem, na S. Paulo Fashion Week, a sua colecção Inverno 2011. Desde sempre o ADN da marca é o preto e desta vez Ana Salazar também não fugiu à regra. Para iluminar a colecção a série de vermelhos em couro sangue deu dinâmica à passerelle. Desta vez a designer rendeu-se ao brilho das lantejoulas em forma de vestidos, tops e leggings misturados com peças leves em gaze, musselina e sarja grossa, seguindo a tendência de misturar tecidos de volumes opostos na equação pesado + leve = cool
Os alfinetes em vestidos, saias e calças de pele e as tachas nos saltos dos botins em seguimento das vibrações punk-rock das últimas colecções, também não trouxeram novidade. Os capuzes de malha prateada a lembrar os cavaleiros medievais namoraram a tendência “female warrior” que se vem impondo há algumas estações atrás. Uma das peças chave da colecção, a saia longa plissada também já foi vista nas passerelles de Verão 2011. Até aqui um conjunto de déjà vu deixou alguma decepção se lembrarmos que estamos a falar de Ana Salazar, a pioneira da moda portuguesa que abriu caminhos e ditou as tendências durante décadas.
Uma nota final para os estampados naturalistas, inspirados nas florestas centenárias da região centro de Portugal e nos pássaros que as povoam. A lufada de ar fresco numa colecção previsível e muito menos arrojada que a designer nos habituou. Será que Ana Salazar perdeu o fôlego da irreverência e a frescura? Penso que não. Talvez por necessidade de a marca conquistar novos mercados e mais clientes, pois, é sabido que o grande mercado nem sempre é receptivo a grandes experimentações.
